50th anniversary celebrations in Ho Chi Minh City In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will host an unprecedented series of events to mark the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification. The city’s Department of Culture and Sports is planning numerous large-scale programs between March 20 and April 30, 2025, with highlights including: 

1. Major events and activities

  • “The Photography Road of Ho Chi Minh City” – A stunning street exhibition from April 15 to May 20 on Dong Khoi Street, showcasing 50 years of reunification through photography. 
  • Olympic Run Day for Public Health 2025 – Promoting unity and healthy lifestyles. 
  • Mass fitness performances and public parades throughout the city. 

2. “Colors of Uncle Ho’s City” – Cultural explosion

Taking place from April 19 to April 30, this cultural extravaganza includes: 

  • 3D mapping art performances 
  • Symphonic concerts and choral shows 
  • Vietnamese opera (cải lương), traditional music, unicorn-lion-dragon dances 
  • Folk arts, circus acts, puppet shows, and martial arts demonstrations 
  • Cultural exchanges between provinces and cities across Vietnam 

These performances will be held at iconic locations like: 

  • Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street 
  • Bach Dang Wharf Park 
  • The City People’s Committee Headquarters 
  • Thu Duc City

3. Grand Finale: April 30, 2025

On the evening of April 30, Ho Chi Minh City will light up with: 

  • A drone light show featuring 10,500 UAVs 
  • 3D mapping displays 
  • Floral boat parades on the Saigon River 
  • Fireworks shows at multiple venues from 9:00 PM to 9:15 PM 
  • The Reunification Day Festival on Nguyen Hue Street with vibrant music and dance performances 

4. Honoring the past and present

Other commemorative programs include: 

  • Honoring 50 leading businesses and 50 influential citizens of the city 
  • Recognizing 50 iconic construction projects 
  • Promoting 50 top literary and artistic works
