What are trusses?
Steel trusses are the heart of modern engineering. Their lightweight yet durable design makes them the preferred solution for long-span structures, driving increasing demand across the construction industry.
Since from the usage of steel as a construction material, thanks to its higher strength with lower mass, trusses took a significant role in the civil structures alongside the advancement of steel industry.
Over the past years and even for currently considering aesthetic feature these trusses are created with the timber planks as well. Steel roof trusses, bridges, electricity, and medium towers and even the structural frames are creating use of those trusses as their integral structural forms.
Production Flow Chart at AM Factory
Steel trusses are merely outlined as triangulation of members to form the stable structure. Triangulation is that the stable configuration mathematically. Generally, a truss has the members known as prime chord, bottom chord, vertical chord, and diagonal chord. the most functions of the trusses are:
- Carrying the hundreds from the over structures
- Providing adequate lateral stability to the complete structure.
Here is our general production flow chart at AM factory. All steps are controlled quality and verified before going next process following international quality standards (AU, US, CA, NZ, EU standards)
Typically, the members of the trusses are created as I sections, angles, T sections, Tube sections, box sections and channel sections. I sections are a lot of preferred as an optimized section in terms of the structural forces.
3 types of steel trusses
- Simple truss – A simple truss refers to a single triangular truss, and therefore, it is one of the most basic yet effective structural forms. In fact, these trusses are most frequently used in construction, particularly as roof trusses, because they provide stability, strength, and ease of installation.
- Planar truss – A planar truss is a two-dimensional framework of straight members connected at their ends, forming a single plane. Moreover, these trusses are widely applied in bridges, roofs, and towers because they efficiently distribute loads while maintaining structural simplicity and cost-effectiveness
- Space frame truss – distinction to planar truss, space frame truss is a three-dimensional framework composed of interconnected struts, creating a rigid and lightweight structure. Consequently, these trusses are often used in large-span constructions such as stadiums, airports, and exhibition halls, where they provide excellent strength, stability, and architectural flexibility.
